Anti-Pain Therapy

Anti-Pain Therapy

Pain, whether in the back, joints, or head, is something we all want to get rid of as quickly as possible. Severe pain is particularly debilitating. It’s all the more understandable if you want to use pain medication during acute phases to alleviate back pain. There’s generally nothing wrong with that – if you have agreed this with your physician and you keep some important aspects in mind.

Pain medication is justified in treating back problems: in cases of severe pain in particular, it provides relief and helps you get on with everyday life. Plus, it can prevent you from adopting an incorrect posture – because you think it may help you relieve the pain. Furthermore, pain medication can help you get active again – and that’s very important in many cases of back pain.

As with other joint pain, the following applies to back pain: pain medication often only helps relieve the symptom, not the cause. In order to be free from pain in the long term, your problems needs to be treated comprehensively.

“Anti-pain therapy” is one of five modules of Bauerfeind’s back therapy. If you want to find out more about comprehensive back therapy and the other modules, you can find all the information here:

Pain medication: a measure with side effects

Like all medication, pain medication impacts your body. The fact that it can usually be bought without a prescription doesn’t mean you can take it without giving it careful thought. A quick look at the package insert is enough to give you an overview of the possible side effects.

However, you don’t have to do completely without pain medication in cases of back pain. But make sure that you use it purposefully – after consulting your physician: for example only during short phases of acute, severe pain, and then just the smallest possible dose.

And remember that pain medication can give you a false sense of security: the fact that the pain has temporarily disappeared doesn’t mean your back has fully recovered. Drugs aren’t a permanent solution to relieve pain in the long run – a comprehensive treatment concept is needed where other medical products can be used:

Supports and orthoses to help with back pain

But the good news is that pain medication isn’t the only option to treat back pain. Depending on the situation and symptoms, other medical products are recommended that are also effective, such as supports and orthoses. Your physician can prescribe these to complement or support your treatment options.
