Product details
Description
The RhizoLoc OA relieves the painful carpometacarpal joint and the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb in cases of osteoarthritis, arthritis as well as after injuries or surgery. The narrow plastic brace immobilizes the thumb down to the distal interphalangeal joint and keeps the thumb and index finger in a defined position. This makes grasping movements possible and the base of the thumb is guided in relieving extension. The stabilizing effect of the orthosis helps reduce pain and supports everyday activities as well as functional therapy measures.
The RhizoLoc OA is adjusted to the size of the palm and the hand circumference via two straps with holes. Patients can put on the light orthosis with one hand and secure the strap via a clip. A thumb strap made of soft, self-engaging Velcro velour provides additional support and protects clothing and surfaces. The textile wrap can be released to wash hands or rinse it. Rounded edges increase wearing comfort and the perforations ensure breathability. Size and right/left version can be found on the inside of the orthosis.

Between two sizes? Take the smaller one - a support needs to sit snug to give you the compression that does the work.

Common questions
The things people ask us most before ordering.
What happens if I order the wrong size?
Send it back within 30 days for a full refund, or email orders@jointoperations.co.uk and we'll swap it for the right size.
Measuring before you order is the quickest route - the size finder on this page turns two tape-measure numbers into a size in about twenty seconds.
Can I wear it under clothing?
Yes. The knit is low-profile and designed to sit under trousers, leggings or a tracksuit without bunching. Most people wear it all day without anyone noticing.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with any fasteners closed. No fabric softener and no tumble drying - dry it flat, away from direct heat.
Washing it regularly actually helps: it lifts the body oils out of the knit and the compression holds its shape for longer.
How long should I wear it for?
Most people wear a support during activity and take it off to sleep. If a clinician recommended it to you, follow their guidance - they'll have a plan for your particular situation.
If you've bought it yourself for ongoing pain and you're not sure, it's worth getting the underlying problem looked at rather than relying on the support alone.
When will it arrive?
Standard delivery takes 3-4 working days and is free on orders over £95. Order before 12:30pm Monday to Thursday for next-day delivery.
Orders placed before 12:30pm on a working day are dispatched the same day; after the cut-off, or at the weekend, they go out on the next working day.
Can I claim it back on insurance or through work?
Some private health policies and occupational health schemes cover orthopaedic supports when they've been recommended by a clinician. We can send an itemised VAT invoice for your claim - just email us with your order number.
Can I buy wholesale for my clinic or shop?
Yes. We're the UK distributor for Bauerfeind, and we supply retailers, clinics, pharmacies and physiotherapy practices directly. Send us a trade enquiry and we'll come back with pricing and account terms.
